I have been given a list of websites (some hosted internal, some external) that need to be set up in SW for availability monitoring.
I've never done this before. Where do I begin to do this?
You can simply apply the HTTP User Experience Monitor to any managed node in Orion. If the node is external you can add a new external node and apply the HTTP User Experience Monitor to it. Node status isn't monitored for external nodes, only the applications assigned to them.
Another option would be to take a look at our Synthetic End User Monitor, which has been purpose built from the ground up for monitoring websites and web based applications.
So it doesn't matter what node I use to set these up?
Also, I'm using APM 4.0.2 SP4 and I don't see any monitor called HTTP User Experience.
Hello,
The exact names are "HTTP Monitor" or "HTTPS Monitor". These monitors contain URL field that you can enter any URL address (then it doesn't matter what node is assigned) or you can use ${IP} macro in this URL field and then this macro will be replaced by IP address of assigned node (this is better solution when you create common template for more nodes).
I hope it helps,

When I assign the HTTP Monitor to a current node, I don't see any URL field. The only thing I see is a set credentials screen.
AlertBot.com is a great service for availability monitoring. I've been using them for over a decade.
