HTTP Monitor Warning on 2 x Failed Polls and Critical on 3?

Hi all,

Is there a way that with the HTTP Monitor I can configure it to only warn me if 2 consecutive polls fail and go Critical on 3? I currently poll every 300 seconds and for one server we occasionally do not get a response although there does not appear to be a problem with the server and users are working fine. It returns to Up again on the next poll.

I'd like to poll more frequently but only warn/fail on successive failures. The Warning and Critical values allow me to select for "Greater than", "Greater than or equal to".... for a Single Poll, x Consecutive or X of Y.

I believe I will need to select a value and select "2 consecutive" for Warning and "3 consecutive" for Critical but am not sure what to select to alert on. Does a failure of the HTTP Monitor return a value or 0? Of 1? or something else? (and how would I go about working this out myself in future?)

Yes, if you edit that application monitoring there is a dropdown where you can choose X consecutive polls.

Hi Chad,

Thanks for the reply and confirming on the "for at least" options. My question is around what I would put in the "greater than" ... text box just above each of these options to specify the condition on this monitor, given that it is really a "boolean monitor" with me either getting a response or not.

However, I've just noticed the heading "Response Time Threshold" so if I was to enter say a value of 10 seconds, then I guess I would trigger the warning after two polls where I have not received a response in 10 seconds?

Thresholds can be used for warning and critical response time status, but if the site is down then the status will be 'down' rather than warning or critical. If you're wanting to configure a retry mechanism for the HTTP Monitor, this can be done but not through the web interface. Instead you will need to edit the 'c:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\APM\SolarWinds.APM.Probes.dll.config' file and modify the HttpClientHelperSettings attribute. Below is an example what that would look like.

Thanks aLTeReGo Sorry if these questions are basic - I am new to Solarwinds although my understanding is now increasing rapidly.

So I have modified my config to give "Warning" after 2 and "Critical" after 3 for required response times. However, I still have an issue where the site is reporting "Down" although there are no issues and a Powershell script I have written using "Invoke-WebRequest" to poll frequently is also returning OK. From some other monitoring tools, it appears that the monitor does not gracefully close connections but performs a TCP Abort and I'm not sure whether this is affecting subsequent connections but am investigating further.

So next question in this thread (the same issue) is "Is there a way I can get the HTTP Monitor to not alert on 'Down' until there are x consecutive failures" in a similar way to what I can achieve with Warning and Critical?
