File Change monitor for linux file

Hello,

I have recently added linux server with smp credential.

I want to monitor file change (eg: /var/test_file), so i assigned a file change monitor template to my linux server and i put the file path path (/var/test_file) after adding ssh credential.

Now, the monitor is not run, and I have this message when i test the file change monitor: "Test Result : Testing on node : failed with'Unknown' status. Could not find file '/var/test_file'"

Ahh.. It could be that you are using the File Change Monitor from the File Monitoring section of the Application Monitor Templates..?

If you are Then the description for that monitor is:

This template tests if a file has been modified. The component monitor performs an MD5 checksum comparison on the file to verify it was not modified. The statistic is the number of hours since the file modification.

Prerequisites: None.

Credentials: Windows credential with read access to the network share and file.

And from reading around, there is potential to use this file monitor to monitor file changes ... if SAMBA is set up.

How ever under the Linux section of the Application Monitor Templates you also have some file monitoring tools and I suspect that they may be more appropriate for the Linux environment ..

Depends what you are trying to monitor about that file?

It sounds like it's not connecting correctly.

I would go to that nodes details and test the snmp polling, if that works, rdp to the orion server and open putty and test the SSH credentials. If that works navigate to the file through the same path you have on the file change monitor in that putty session to make sure it can be seen that way.

is on the right track. The File Monitors in SAM utilize the WMI protocol to monitor for file & directory existence/change/size/etc. These monitors will not work for Linux machines. Even those running SAMBA, as Linux/Unix does not support WMI. For Linux you would need to use the Linux/Unix Script Monitor to gather this information, like the one listed below.

You can even use Nagios scripts with SAM's Nagios Script Monitor, like those available on the Nagios Exchange. Below is one such example.
