Find Connected Port for End Host

I like the idea of being able to find the details of what switch, interface etc a particular host is connected to but so far I haven't managed to get it to return any information for any hosts I get it to search for.

I've run a discovery on our switch subnet and also on our server subnet, I've done the connect now map in Atlas but I always get NO RESULTS FOUND FOR YOUR QUERY.

If I run the Discovered links report in NPM it returns a list of details but even this list is not complete it's missing probably 25% of the switches NPM and NCM are monitoring so I don't know if the whole issue with End Host information is due to the discovery and Topology information not being complete.

Anyone got this working or having similar issues?

We have the same problem. NPM seems to find the objects during the scan, but we have zero luck when trying to find those items during the Find Connected Port for End Host search.

I've also tried connecting the servers to the switches in Network Atlas and while it connects all the switches to the correct uplink interfaces it doesn't connect any end devices.

I need to thoroughly go through the documentation before I log a call with support.

The Find Connected Port for End Host feature in NCM follows the same rules, and has the some limitations, as the ConnectNow feature described in this KB article.

I've now managed to get the servers connected , found out that all subnets that you want to connect on a single connectnow map or through the Find connected for end host need to be in the same discovery routine.

Let me ask you this for the End Host Port Lookup to work:

Do I have to do a Network Discovery on my client vlan? (all laptops and desktops are in VLAN 100)

(I have all my network switches in VLAN 200 and they're all imported into NCM/NPM with integration).

I thought it just had to inventory the switches to get their layer 2 mac tables and then be able to tell me where the host was.....

Also, i manage 100 switches and 300 various interfaces on those switches....i do NOT want to use Network Sonar and go thru and add/ignore all the different interfaces on those switches to get this to work. I dont have the money or licenses (or time) to have all switches and all ports monitored.

If I have to do a Network Discovery on the client VLAN...can I just do the discovery and not import anything? (not managing clients in this tool).
