NETFLOW REALTIME (Engineer's Toolset v10) VERY DISAPPOINTING !!!

Recently purchased Toolset v10, added 56 interfaces, started having problems with Netflow crashing all the time, open case with Solarwinds and was told

This may be our problem.Speaking w/ our applications group they state that this particular application was not designed to handle an entire network of devices. Try and scale this back to just a hand full of devices and see if this makes a difference. If you would like to monitor your entire network we offer Orion Netflow Traffic Analyzer but I'm sure you are aware of this."

56 interfaces exporting netflow data to the toolset is going to flood your app with data. Given your expectation for a desktop application to process this much data using a non-enterprise class database, you're destined for disappointment.

Personally, I don't see anything unprofessional with their response. They told you the probable cause of the issue, and a reasonable troubleshooting step to determine if it is indeed caused by the amount of data that is being processed. It sounds like you have a need, but are using the wrong tool to do the job.

I'm only jumping in here because I've seen the same thing using the toolset. Scaling back the number of interfaces that are exporting data to the toolset was the solution for me. If you have NPM, download the trial for NTA. It's a pretty good product in my opinion.

I would not have had a problem with this answer but when first talked to a sales/engineer they insisted this would not be a problem. Now I look like the fool !

Sorry to hear the Netflow tool in Toolset isn't living up to your expectations; however, the tool wasn't designed to be able to manage this many interfaces. It doesn't really have a hard cap in terms of the number of interfaces it can manage using Netflow, but you're going to start seeing issues when trying to manage any more than 10.

The Netflow Traffic Analyzer module for Orion is more appropriate for your needs if you're trying to monitor Netflow on that many interfaces. I would encourage you to download and try the NTA module free for 30 days. The sheer amount of data that Netflow generates really requires a database, which goes beyond the scope of the Toolset tool.

All do respect but I now have a product that doesn't work & you want me in invest another $1500.00 !!

Like many other small companies my budget is not existent and my budget for 2010 was spent on the toolset product !
