Have SQL Question about mass updates...

I'm not too SQL savvy so forgive me if this is a little rookieish.. 

Is it possible to search for specific values in the Nodes table and replace them with new values? 

We are changing all of our community strings and I do not wish to update all of the nodes individually.

Any advice will be warmly regarded...

It's not that difficult to do, but you should ensure you have a valid backup of your database first...

 

Stop all of your polling engines, then on the Orion server - open the Orion Database Manager, drill down to your database and select the Nodes table.  Right click on the Nodes table and select Query, then change it to Read-Write and paste something like this into the window:

 

update nodes

set Community = 'new community string'

where Vendor = 'Cisco'

and Community = 'old community string'

 

Then hold your breath and press the Refresh button...
