Advance Alert Help

Hi All,

Having a bit of an issue trying to get an Advance Alert working and was hoping that someone may be able to point me in the right direction.

Basically, what i am looking for is the following:

Trigger Alert when all of the following apply

Node Name is equal to SERVER NAME

Trigger Alert when Any of the following apply

Application Status is equal to Warning

Application Status is equal to Down

Trigger Alert when Any of the following apply

Application Name is equal to Linux Process Check - Tomcat

Application Name is equal to Linux Process Check - HTTPD

Application Name is equal to Linux Process Check - Jenkins.war

However, i seem to have the following issues as well.

* When selecting Application Status is equal to warning\Down i only seem to get the options of Critical or Down and sometimes the option is just "up"

as shown below

So this is basically how i think the alert conditions should look, however, i had to manually type in the Application Status is equal to Down\Warning and don't think that will work.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Given what I've seen in the past, I think the drop-down is populated with the values that currently exist - have a look at your drop-down when you use something like the amount of disk space used:

So I wouldn't worry too much as long as the text matches. I'm sure I've had occasions where I've typed a value in myself and it has behaved as I want it to.

If you really need to test, try creating a temporary monitor based on a service you can safely stop for a few minutes to test (Remote Registry is a good one - it runs, but I don't think any apps actually rely on it - but use at your own risk!)

That's correct, it populates the drop down list with what currently exists. If you weren't able to overwrite what's in the drop down list, things like "contains" wouldn't work when you are wanting to find more that one node name for example. This is why you can fill out whatever you are looking for

e.g. 'Node Name that contains 2811' will look for any node that has 2811 in its name.

Something really strange is going on.

I crated the below alert:

and for some reason, it is alerting me on some of my other servers when there is an application issue such as warning or down.

Is there a way to force the alert for just those two servers (LDNJENKINS01 and LDNJIRA01) ?

at the moment, if i have a DFS issue on my file server, this alert is triggered and i get the alert email and i should not since it is not called one of those servers mentioned above.

Have a created the alert rule incorrectly?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just to add, the processors in the template are as follows:

LDNJIRA01

LDNJENKINS01

I believe the issue is with the hierarchy of your condition groups. You should have the first and second condition groups at the same level and not nested three deep.

agree with the nesting issue being the problem but might want to try this:

that top any means trigger if node = servername

each condition group represents an "AND" condition to the alert, so as I recommended the without 3 tier nesting the alert should now read "in plain English":

Trigger Alert when Node Name is equal to LDNJIRA01 OR LDNJENKIS01, AND when the application name is equal to "Linux Process Check - LDNJENKIS01" OR "Linux Process Check - LDNJIRA01" AND Application Status is equal to down OR warning.

The last image i pasted is how i have my alert set (as mentioned by aLTeReGo, however, it still seem that i am getting alerts for different servers and different monitored processors, this is an alert i got last night:

Hello syn3rgy,

The problem is in the ANY condition on the first line of your alert definition. It creates OR condition, but you need AND condition. So please change any to all.
