Network Performance Monitor (NPM)
The SNMP Service terminated unexpectedly
amata
I have a problem with my 2000 Servers, after a while my Performance monitor starts to show me the following message:
-Node status is Up
One or more interfaces are in an Unknown state.
This message is because the Snmp Service stops, but we dont know why.We have all the service packs and it only happens in a few servers. Does anybody know what is the reason and how i can solve it?

This happens to me also. Personally I think Microsoft did a poor job building the SNMP engine. You might need to switch to the Net-SNMP agent. you can download it at
ftp.freesnmp.com/.../
Look for, net-snmp-5.3.1-1.win32.exe
It's the latest version.

First thanks for answer me, i have been in this since the last month. Im sorry to bother again but im new in this, i try to do it with the net-snmp agent but i still cant monitor my server with orion. I follow the installation document, but i cant add my node to orion, maybe you can tell me how you do it. Did you modify something in Orion?

You have to set up communities and hosts. If you don't, default is usually hosts equal to all and communities of public and private.
Also you must stop the Windows SNMP service and set it to disabled. Then you can try and start Net-SNMP.

I already did it, but when i stop the snmp service( Windows) and start the other agent I can't add the host to Orion, even using the public community. I ask for support whit Solarwinds and they said that we need to ask microsoft because the Snmp-agent is for unix and Linux.
Do I need to modify some source code to the snmp-agent?
This is what i write in the snmp.conf:
## sec.name source community
com2sec local localhost public
com2sec network_1 192.168.4.0/24 public
com2sec network_2 192.168.25.0/24 public
## group.name sec.model sec.name
group MyROGroup v1 local
group MyROGroup v1 network_1
group MyROGroup v1 network_2
I don't know how to make this thing works.

Try using a MIB Tree browser. If you get anything back, then its an issue with Orion. If it times out, then your issue is network or server. I can't see your environment, so it could be anything at this point.
