It does have a cli – and I only need to automate a save of the running configuration.

Do you know if I can use some type of expect script?

You can specify e.g. username and password prompts in case NCM can't auto-detect them properly.

I suggest that you start with Cisco IOS device template (look into NCM install folder for "DeviceType" subfolder) and modify it accordingly.
