Compact database option gone

Hello,

I just upgraded to NPM 10.4 and I am having some issue's with the Database manager.

When I go into it, there is no longer a toolbar that has an option to compact the database.

Has anyone else had this issue?

If so how did you fix it?

Dustin,

This looks to have been purposefully removed from the Database Manager. Compacting a database can cause index fragmentation which may explain why it was removed. There are ways to do this using SQL management studio that I don't believe are as harmful to a database. If you have a DBA I would discuss having him setup something to shrink the database if there is found to be a need.

What if a small company doesn't have a DBA? I understand Solarwinds is growing by leaps and bounds, but not all companies have them!

There are SQL experts within these forums perhaps someone can assist with this. I was upset to learn that the backup DB was removed from this tool as well. While we have scheduled backups I always used this tool to do an on demand backup prior to an upgrade. Now I've had to engage our DBAs to do this prior to an upgrade.

The best option I'd recommend is installing SQL Server Management Studio. You can get it free from Microsoft. You can connect to the SQL server with this and do backups and shrinks of the database as needed. That's about the only other option with SolarWinds not having the ability anymore.
