Network Performance Monitor (NPM)
Accuracy of Peak/Avg utilization graphs
rkendrick
I am researching our frame-relay network on a per circuit and pvc basis to determine proper bandwidth and CIR needs and need accurate min/max peak/avg utilization charts. I've been monitoring our frame network for a couple of months with Orion and the utilization seems a lot lower than when I was using Solarwinds engineers additional of Network Performance Monitor. Is there anything I need to do on the router's Serial interface (like modifying the load interval) or within SYstem Manager's polling / statistics section to make things even more accurate and exact? I believe the 'avg' plots are correct on Orion's graphs but the peaks don't seem to be instantaneous enough.

You might want to check the Interface Statistics polling interval.
Each interface can be set individually on the Interface Details page in Orion System Manager. I would offer that a 5 minute interval should give you a good indication of the peaks (that's what I use on our busy links, 15 minutes for all else).
Tip; you can view, sort and manage all your interfaces using the "View" tab in the System Manager app. I created a View that includes the interface stats polling setting.
You can sort be any field, then once you have found your interfaces, right click on the interface & select "Interface details" so that you can edit the bandwidth & polling timers
without searching through 100's of nodes & 1000's of interfaces.
