Application Providers supplying templates

Hi,

Does anyone know if any suppliers provide agents/templates that APM can use to monitor there products. I would presume that as Orion/APM become closer to being recognised as the defacto standard for NMS that application providers would include agents/plugins that solarwinds would be able to use. Am i right in presuming that an agent based approach is not yet available for application providers?

Was thinking that it would be good if suppliers like infoblox, f5, microsoft and others are solarwinds "certified" and provide template/agents that are able to monitor all the applications that they are providing.

APM can use SNMP, which is a built-in agent. Other than that, we haven't looked at any other agents. We're committed to broadly-adopted industry standards, so if another agent were to achieve that status, we would certainly consider it.

But my first thought is that agents are technology, a means to an end. What do you want APM to do with an agent that can't do without an agent?

I suppose you are right in that if all applications were snmp capable and added MIBS for monitoring their various activities then there would be little need for agents. In retrospect I suppose my question was not thought out correctly.

Miron -- i wasn't trying to shut you down. I wouldn't want to do that. I'm mostly trying to nudge you into trying to pull you toward talking about the problems you want solved that we're not solving. And pulling you away from the specific implementation. So what problems do we need to solve?

No worries mate, i know you werent trying to shut me down:-)

I suppose what I was trying to get at is imagine application providers being able to say that they are solarwinds complaint in that they provide a monitor with their app designed to be used by solarwinds. Like having the Solarwinds stamp of approval:-)
