Enabling Real time Change detection

Hi Team,

Can any one help me to enable Real time change detection (triggering mail and auto downloading the configuration)

I have configured the SNMP trap server as per the instruction mentioned in NCM admin guide (Page 63 & 64). Also configured the Real-Time Change detection under Settings tab in NCM local application.

I have also enabled the traps on the network device please find the below details of it. But still i m not able get alerts via email nor the configuration get downloaded automatically.

Is there any other changes to be done on the network part or the application.

If you configured everything via the admin guide, then the first place to look at would be the RTN.log file.

Do you have one, and if so, what is in it?

I tried searching RTN.log file but it seems file has not been genrated. Can you please suggest what should I do next.

If no RTN log is created, then the issue is within the trap viewer setup.

Either your trigger conditions are not matching, or your rule is misconfigured.

Double check with the admin guide to ensure you did it exactly and did not make a mistake.

If everything is correct, start with the Message Type Pattern. Change it to * so that all messages will go through. This is simply to test end to end functionality. Once that works, then you know the issue is with the message type.

Basically, make your triggers as basic as possible to test end to end.

If that all works then change the action of the rule from:

"Path\Configuration Management\ConfigAutoDownload.exe" ${IP},RealtimeNotification,${DateTime},${Message}

"Path\Configuration Management\ConfigAutoDownload.exe" ${IP}

Make sure the quotes are there.

You can also create a new action that simple writes a txt file to test the trigger.

The point is, if you are sure the traps are arriving to your trap viewer, then you have to isolate the issue to either the trigger or the action before you can go to the next step. When that portion is working, there will be an RTN.log file to view for the next step.

Finally, if you are not doing all this with a local admin id and not a domain id with local admin rights, then you may have a permissions issue. You must test with a local admin id to ensure it works end to end then you can figure out the permissions setup for a Domain account.

Hi Jayesh,

When I first started messing around with real time change detection, I tried traps as well. I got it working but not as I hoped. I switched from using SNMP Traps to syslog and it worked much much better and I was very happy with the result. An event was generated everytime someone left config mode. This made it very easy to see if someone was trying changes multiple times.

The issue seems to be resolved. I have reinstalled the NCM trap service, assign it an administrative privilige as mentioned in guide. Reconfigured the alert rule in SNMP trap server. Restarted the server.

Its working fine now and i able to get the alerts as well config changes are getting downloaded automatically.
