We have a few differnt typs of email notifications coming from NCM that I'd like to change what is in the e-mail. Is there a template used for notification? How do I edit it?
Currently, there is not, but this is something that we're looking at for a future release. If there are others out there that are interested, please speak up to help us prioritize.
I've been suggesting this for years:
1. Do away with the side-by-side comparisons in the emails. They are unintelligible unless your screen is a 2048x1280 resolution, which mine is not. It would be much better, in my opinion, to do a unix diff-style comparison like this:
duplex full speed 100 switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q switchport mode trunk+ no cdp enable ! interface FastEthernet0/48 load-interval 30 duplex full speed 100 switchport trunk allowed vlan 1,608,609,1002-1005 switchport mode trunk+ no cdp enable !
This format has the added benefit of showing the previous few lines of the config, rather than just the changed parts. It gives you an idea of where in the config the changes were made. NCM took a small step forward with the addition of the interface to the config change emails, but this doesn't really work for anything that isn't either Cisco, or a change that wasn't made to an interface.
2. Send a single notification for only the devices whose configurations have changed. Right now, I get a single notification, but it includes a "Downloaded running config" message for every single device, which I really don't need. One notification with only changes and errors would be pretty nice.
I agree, the side by side is nice when I'm sitting infront of my widescreen laptop but most of the emails I get I read on my blackberry first. It can be quite difficult to understand what is going on...
I would also like the abilty to not include any devices that haven't changed in the scheduled jobs.
