Polling causing AP's to reboot.

Has anyone come across an issue where after NPM polls an AP it causes the AP to roboot?

I'm confused on this one. We still have some more troubleshooting to determine what might be causing this but just thought I would throw it out here to see if anyone has seen this similar issue.

Whenever I add two of our Cisco 1131 AP's to NPM, evertime NPM polls these AP's it causes them to reload. If I take them out of NPM they don't reload.

We've tried upgrading\downgrading the code on the AP's so far but that doesn't seem to make a difference.

Our next step is to move them to different PoE ports on the switch.

In reality it could just very well be that the AP's are just bad and need to be replaced.

Thoughts?

I have not heard this from others that I can recall. Can you look and see if there were any SNMP errors in the AP logs? You also may want to open a ticket with Cisco TAC.

Hi... I have been having the same issue with our Cisco 1250 APs since version 9.5. I had opened a ticket on it because all our 1250 APs stopped responding at the same time one day. It did not affect other models like the 1220s or 1240s. Unfortunately, I am unable to find the ticket I opened about it. Anyways, at that time, the tech said I should downgrade the versions to 12.3(x). Someone else had called in the same day with the exact same issue.

Recently, I upgraded our Orion to 10.5 and thought the issue may have been resolved, but it hadn't. The 1250 APs I added to be fully monitored stopped responding and the ones I added for ICMP-only all rebooted. AUGH!

I was just starting to look through thwack articles before opening another ticket and saw your post. Sorry, I don't have any answers but wanted to let you know you're not alone...

So did Cisco ack that there was a bug in their code, hence asking you to downgrade the code? Are they still actively working with you on it?

No, it was a Solarwinds tech I was on the phone with who requested I downgrade. I did not follow through with downgrading because of issues with the older code.

I have opened another Solarwinds ticket since I was unable to find any posts about this. I'll let you know if they are able to help me.

we are monitoring via snmp a bunch of Cisco 1252's and 1242's APs without issues in NPM.

You might want to also ensure that you have following line in your AP's config ...

snmp-server host 192.168.99.99 public

snmp-server community public view iso RO

(replace '192.168.99.99' with your NPM ip address and replace 'public' with your readonly community string)

I also highly recommend you open a case with Cisco TAC. I am not saying it is their issue, but we have many other customers monitoring AP's with no issues, so I am suspicious there is something up with the code rev you are running on the AP's.
