HI All,
I have a very basic query. We have 1 Primary Polling engine and 4 additional polling engines.
In situation where the primary polling engine is down, then what is the impact? Just to add we dont have any failover mechanism.
If the primary Polling Engine will be Down Other pollers will work normally for POLLING .
However
NO Alerting
NO Website
will be available as Alerting and Website handled by Primary Polling Engine ( Unless you have Additional Website Server installed and only website will be available through that )
Any further question feel free to include.
In my experience, you won't be getting any alerting, and Netflow (NTA) if installed will also be out to lunch (assuming all primary poller services are down as opposed to just a couple of them).
Easiest way to get notification if there's an issue, assign the Orion Server SAM template (available on thwack) to your primary and additional pollers, set to page yourself if the SAM monitor goes down.
Things to be aware of: JET file quantity and MSMQ folder sizes (both monitored via the template above) can cause polling to stop.
The primary polling will get and manage some nodes (probably the nodes of its main office). So, when this polling is down you can't collect data from this nodes. That's what I've tested.
I got your point. But what abt the polling and alerting from other engines? Will that also not work?
How abt the other polling engine's alerting and monitoring?
Sorry all i think my earlier response went wrong...
I understand that if the primary polling engine is down, then the monitoring of nodes from that particular engine will not happen.
But how abt the other engines? and will the alerting work for these?
Thanks..this is the clarification I was looking for....
