New Installation NMP 12.4, NTA, IPAM etc. - Database corrupt!

Hello everyone,

I backed-up database from the old Solarwinds running on Windows 2012 for migrating to new Windows 2016 or above.

As I installed NPM, IPAM and NTA on the new server 2016; Solarwinds installer asked for the creation of the new Database called "SolarwindsFlowStroage" for NTA. Is that the requirement? or am I missing anything?

So what would happen with the existing database that has NTA details that I backed-up? ....and in doing so I stopped the Solarwinds installer 2 to 3 times and now it looks Database on new server 2016 has been crashed.

Is there any way of uninstalling all the Solarwinds from the server? I did it one by one but still when I run new installation it still shows the old information.

Any suggestion?

So first off, what products and versions were you coming from?

NPM v?

NTA v?

IPAM v?

If you are upgrading NTA then the latest version has moved the database from FastBit to SQL, and as such the Config Wizard will run through the creation of a second database which holds the flow data. This is in addition to your existing SolarWinds Orion DB (NetPerfMon / SolarWindsOrion etc) During the installation pre-reqs you should have been prompted about the NTA requirement for SQL Server 2016 SP2 which you must have accepted. There is no migration path for your old FastBit Flow Storage, this is a fresh database.

I would suggest re-running the configuration wizard and letting it finish to see what happens.

Otherwise please do give us some additional information and we can suggest steps to resolve.

NTA database is installed on the local Solarwinds web Server.

The reason I'm building this new server is to make solarwinds more faster. At the moment, it is so slow.

I have provisioned new Windows Server 2019 with C: 100G and D and E 50G each, and restored the existing Database from the SQL Server 2012 to SQL Server 2016.

In my first attempt I have accomplished this with only installing NPM but I was unable to login with local admin user or any other local user. Then I found to reset the Admin with the blank password, I did that too but then could not login in.

Moreover, now what it looks DB is crashed and installer is not working as it should.

Please advise!

Ok so firstly your existing versions are not that old so you should be able to upgrade ALL products with the latest version of the All In One Installer, which you can download from your Customer Portal.

Are you keeping the same IP Address & Hostname as the existing Server or are you using new, or just temporary IP's to run in parallel?

I'm not sure the state of your installation, most things can be fixed by repairing the installation and running the configuration wizard, but not being able to login sounds like something went wrong - you shouldn't have needed to reset the Admin password. It's hard to diagnose remotely, but if your new 2019 Server is virtual, I might suggest deleting it and starting again so that you have a blank slate. Delete the DB from the new SQL Server, and copy it over again.

The existing Solarwinds server is on Windows Server 2012 so version 12.4 needs to be Windows 2016. Therefore, I provisioned Server 2019 because it is available in my company.

So, I have fresh server with new IP with new SQL server 2016 with restored database.

The simple plan is once it is running then we'll discard the old one.. Yes, I need to add new server on switches for logging.
