Inventory with Secure Protocols

Hey Y'all,

I'm working on an Orion/Cirrus pilot. We are trying to confine ourselves to secure protocols, specifically SSHv2 and SNMPv3. I can download configs, but I can't get Cirrus to do an inventory. With Cirrus 4.0, the inventory window opens and hangs. With Cirrus 4.01, the inventory windows opens for a half second then closes.

I'm running Cirrus 4.01. I've specified SNMP v3 in the device details SNMP section; SNMP status is 'OK'. Under Communications, I've selected 'SSH Auto' for all three choices. Under login information, I've specified a TACACS user and password with privilege level 15; Last Login is 'OK'.

Ideas, anyone?

Problem resolved. One last observation regarding the problem: a sniffer revealed that there was no packet traffic -- zero, zip, nada -- while Cirrus attempted to run the inventory.

The problem was resolved with an aggressive reinstall. 1. Uninstall Cirrus from Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel; 2. Delete the folder Program Files > Solarwinds > Configuration Management; 3. In the Registry, delete two keys: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Solarwinds.net > Configuration Management, and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Solarwinds.net > Configuration Manager; 4. Reboot the server; and 5. Reinstall Cirrus.

NOTE: One of the two keys was not there when I went to delete them. This no doubt relates to the problem.

Cirrus now performs inventory of our Cisco gear with SNMPv3. Many thanks to Josh and our other buddies at SolarWinds.

Validate IP Address: Responding in 0 miliseconds
Validate SNMP: Responding to SNMP Queries
SNMP Access: Read-Only SNMP Access

As you see, I've set up SNMP for read-only access. Does Cirrus inventory require read/write access?

Yes, you need Read/Write access in order to get the configs through SNMP.

Hey Sedmo,

Configs are not a problem. I can get configs on a switch configured with SNMPv3 read-only by using a TACACS user and password via SSHv2.

The problem is inventory. On a different switch, configured with SNMPv3 read and write, my inventory is still failing. But thanks for the suggestion, Sedmo!
