No netflow data on 4500 interfaces

A while back I set up netflowr on our Cisco 4500 and did not realize, until today when I really needed it for a problem, that there is no data being collected on the interfaces. I wasn't able to get any traffic information at all on the interfaces that we were having difficulties with.

I have not been able to find commands that would make that information available. Anyone else had this problem?

Geoo,

Depending on your version of IOS, you might only get layer 3 data from NetFlow. The layer 2 support didn't show up until 12.3(14)T.

I believe that the 4500 needs a NetFlow card installed - WS-4531

We have two 4500's and you definately have to have a netflow services card installed to gather netflow data.

Thanks for the responses. We do have the netflow cards and we are getting netflow data, just not on the interfaces. We only get netflow data from the VLANs. Is that normal?

There was no 12.3(14)T for the 4500 series platform.

It went from 12.2(54) SG1 ED to 15.0.2 SG(ED).

I have yet to see a fix from Solarwinds that provides Layer2 netflow data from Cisco 4500 switches.

Netflow is a layer 3 technology. Layer 3 traffic that is switched at layer 2 will be the only traffic captured when the following command is configred " ip flow ingress layer2-switched" if the IOS allows it. Also with the 4500 it depends on the sup engine.

Sup IV and V (require the Netflow service card)

Sup V-10G (embedded in the sup engine)

Sup 6E and 6LE ( No Netflow support)

Sup 7 ( Only support Flexible Netflow)

Sample config:

ip route-cache flow infer-fields

ip flow ingress infer-fields

ip flow ingress layer2-switched

ip flow-cache timeout inactive 45

ip flow-export source (port with the IP address managed in Orion)

ip flow-export version 5

ip flow-export destination Orion server IP address 2055

Yes I'm aware of that. We have the layer2-switched line in the config. We have SupIVs with the netflow daughter cards installed. We are getting netflow stats.

We just aren't getting layer2 stats, ie. intra-vlan stats. We've had this problem for about 18mths - I look back on here every now and again to see if it's been resolved. To date It appears not to have been.
