NCM policies and rules

Hi everyone,

I'm quite new in using SolarWinds and I'm using Orion NCM 7.0.2 and have a question regarding its policies and rules. Looking at NCM Settings - Manage policies and Manage rules, I see they are last modified back in 2006. I'd like to update them and use the ones that are actual now in the Cisco world. Is there a way to get newest policies and rules for Cisco devices? Support pointed me on Thwack.

Searching on Thwack I've found some new policies from 2011 and 2012. Do you think they can help me? Is somebody using them?

What are you looking to do with either the rule or the policy? If there's a rule or policy available for what you are wanting, then yes it will help you. All the old rules and policies will still work but again it depends on what you are wanting to do and on what type of device.

Otherwise you can always write your own.

I want to check if my Cisco device configurations comply to various Cisco best practice configuration rules. For example I'd like to compare them to PCI-DSS rules also to see if there are any critical errors that should be fixed.

Hi,

There are a couple of Cisco policy reports available out of the box and many more in NCM Content Exchange here on thwack. I haven't seen the DSS report though.
