Polling issues on some devices, NCM not reporting interfaces

I have been running some reports in SW that counts the total number of ports in my environment and also the total number of currently active ports.

However, I noticed that of the 1400 devices, 100 of them do not show any data. So I decided to do some SWQL testing and when I run the command:

SELECT COUNT(InterfaceDescription) AS NumPorts, N.Caption

FROM NCM.Interfaces I JOIN Orion.Nodes N ON (I.Node.CoreNodeID = N.NodeID)

WHERE ((InterfaceTypeName like 'EthernetCsmacd'))

GROUP BY N.NodeID, N.Caption

ORDER BY NumPorts DESC

This returns the Node name that I want as well as the number of interfaces of the Ethernet type.

So the output looks like:

NumPorts Caption

288 *Device Name Here*

Some devices however of the same switch types(Cisco) 3850, 4510, 9410 are not polling any data, so when I run a query to test a specific device:

SELECT COUNT(InterfaceDescription) AS NumPorts, N.Caption

FROM NCM.Interfaces I JOIN Orion.Nodes N ON (I.Node.CoreNodeID = N.NodeID)

WHERE N.Caption like 'Name-9410'

GROUP BY N.NodeID, N.Caption

ORDER BY NumPorts DESC

NumPorts Caption

And nothing shows at all. I have 100 devices out of 1400 that show nothing. This is throwing off my counts and I am not sure how to fix the polling or whatever is causing it to not show the interfaces on these devices.

Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry it has taken me a couple days to respond. Here is the answer to my issue:

Monitor and unmonitor ports in UDT - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and Support

The notes were not being UDT Monitored.

I would go to the node details page of one of those devices and check the following and see if the date is current or in the past. You can also click on edit node and check to see how you are polling ICMP or SNMP if SNMP run a test on the community string to see if passes maybe someone changed the community string.

Thanks for checking into this with me, it is greatly appreciated. I did check the SNMP settings and tested them. Verified it connects. Also checked the polling details:

It shows today's date so then I went to run the device counts:

I have about 1300 that work and 100 that don't. It's got me puzzled as to why. Any other ideas? Any other way to get port counts from a device in NCM?

Hello.

Interfaces would show for Network Performance Monitor (NPM) while the physical ports would show up using the User Device Tracker (UDT).

What do you see when you are on your node details page?

I checked to see if I can find that location, perhaps my version is different or I don't have the same view. On my node details page I see these:

Management

Current Hardware health

Current Percent Utilization of Each interface(This does show the ports/interfaces that are active):

Node Details

Polling Details

Under the network section, I see Hardware details:

But I don't see don't see Health Summary or Port Details. I might be in the wrong place, or have an older version?

How can I check the UDT settings for a particular device to see if they are polling?
