Config Change Request Process

I am running NCM 7.0

Config Change Request/Approval

I feel like I am missing something... How do I submit a change request? I would like to try it out before I roll something like this out across our NCM platform.

I see a lot of documentation on the approval part, however, I do not see *any* documentation on the request part. I have searched for "Config Change Request" in thwack, in the docs, and in google, but I can't seem to find any information at all.

After you enable the approval feature you need to be logged into NCM as a user with the WebUploader NCM role in order to be able to submit a request.

When logged in as a WebUploader, places such as execute script, execute config change template ect. will have a send request button vs a execute/submit now button.

This works well.

I do have one observation though. You might consider adding a button to allow admins to be able to submit changes for approval as well. This could be used as a kind of peer review process. In my situation we are 6 admins trying to make everything run well. We don't really have a need for the approval process other than the aformentioned peer review possibility.

100% agree! Most of the people in my organization that needs a firewall change don't know how to translate it from a need to a config snippet. The people who approve don't know the technical side, but my peers and I do. So I need: a request which would be text, then a design that would be the snippet, then a peer review to see if the design and the request line up and does it well, then a manager would approve it and assign a time for implementation, then the real-time config change or post config download would attach a copy of the change and have it reviewed by the designer and peer, then the final sign off by a manager. Some of those steps are a bit redundant, but would be good for some.

Good input all. Taking all this into account for future rounds of evolution of this feature (62878)

Netlogix, your workflow is interesting and sophisticated. The way we are thinking of allowing this in the future is via integration with an external "request or change management" system, typically a trouble ticketing system.

At some point, when the workflow becomes too sophisticated, we feel like external systems, designed to have this type of flexibility, are the best way to implement this, vs. in NCM itself.
