Can SQL clusters be monitored by specific IPs through Orion?

Here is the request I have before me: I have a user who wants to have Orion monitor specific IPs on SQL clusters. I'm not sure if this is possible or not. I thought I'd check here before submitting a ticket to Solarwinds.

"The SQL clusters have specific IPs, can those network interfaces be monitored? Need to make sure that only the traffic for the clustered instance is watched, not all traffic for the entire NIC."

Yes they can, I monitor the physical nodes as well as the cluster resources.

How would I set that up? The user is on my Hosting team and wants to Orion to give him a view of traffic for the clustered interface and not the traffic for the entire NIC. I don't know if we can pull it out like that.

Well that's not possible, The Nic is a physical device, we assign it to and monitor it on the Node.

Any cluster resource I.E. Disks are monitored through the cluster resource address

I think what you may need is Netflow to determine what traffic is going to and coming from the cluster resources address.

Ok, so we might be able to monitor that via Netflow?

What I did was set up the clustered drives that are being used for SQL.

I was thinking that I would have to set up some custom MIB polling. I guess that's not the case.

I'll look into it more on Monday to see what options Netflow will offer.

you can do this just use the MS TCP interface when you set up the virtual IP. Then all traffic for that IP on the NIC will register in the interface you set up.

Where do I get to the MS TCP interface? Is that via custom mibs?
