Interface Activity Reports

Hello,

I was wondering if it possible to create a report that will show me which interfaces on a specified device have not had any activity in "X" number of days, minutes, seconds, whatever? The closest I have found in NCM is by double-clicking the device, selecting the Interfaces tab, then selecting "Time data was last Transmitted /Received" from the drop-down menu. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to be entirely accurate as I have some active interfaces with no numbers in the "Time since last data Received" or "Time since last data Transmitted" fields. I have opened a ticket on this issue in the past and was told that this is a known issue. I guess it hasn't been corrected yet. Anyway, if I could get this type of data in a report, that would be usefull. Ideally, I would like to be able to tel the report to only report those interfaces that have had no activity in "X" number of "whatever measuring unit". I looked at the available options in the custom reports, but I didn't see anything that really looked like it would do this.

I am looking for this data as we have several locations that are asking for more switches as they are out of ports, but I am pretty sure that they have numerous unused drops connected to a lot of the interfaces.

Thanks Darryl, this is pretty much what I was looking for. The only problem is that we have a limited NPM license, and we are not monitoring every interface. I was hoping that I could get the info out of NCM instead. This capability is in NCM via the Orion Network Configuration Manager by double-clicking on the node in question, selecting the "Interfaces" tab, changing "Interface Details to "Time data was last Transmitted / Received". Most of the time this gives me accurate results, but not all of the time. Also, my boss would like a report instead of screen shots.

Well, now I feel like an idiot. All I have to do is select File/Export and export it to a PDF file. This works pretty good as long as the data is available.

lists the last time data was sent out of an interface

If you create an Advanced SQL report based on it you should get something near what you want.

Add an extra WHERE clause to filter on time

I am not very good with SQL Which table do I run this query against, dbo.Nodes?

To use the code just go onto your Orion server and start the Report Writer utility

Click on the 'New' button

Select Advanced SQL from the list and click on OK

Click on the SQL tab and paste the code into this window

Click on preview to see the rsults

The query retrieves data from 3 different tables including dbo.nodes
