APM on IIS 7.0

Has anybody gotten APM to work properly on IIS 7.0?

We have it running fairly well, but the Oracle experience monitor does not work. Keeps saying the Oracle client isn't installed. However, we have the 9.2 client installed, can tnsping the Oracle instances we want to monitor, can sqlplus from a command line and run the query we want to use, and generally just disagree with APM's assessment of what is and isn't installed.

I even tried downloading Solarwinds version of the Oracle client. But it won't install, just keeps saying "Can't copy files to..." when we run it.

Help.

Orion NPM 9.1 doesn't support Windows Server 2008 or IIS7. That will change with NPM 9.5. When NPM supports 2008 and IIS7, APM will, too.

However, that doesn't answer my question. I have Oriona NPM 9.1 working just fine on 2008 server. I also, for the most part, have APM working just fine on 2008 and IIS7.

I just can't get the Oracle Experience monitor to recognize that the Oracle client is installed. And honestly, I had this same problem when I first installed APM on XP. I just am not sure what I did to fix it, or how I would do the same thing on IIS7.

I can't be the first person to try installing it on an up to date server...

I think Denny and I both got side tracked by your reference to IIS 7. The Oracle UX monitor shouldn't have anything to do with the version of IIS.

You said you were getting an error when you tried to install the Oracle Client package you downloaded form SolarWinds.com. What was the error exactly? If you look in you Orion install directory, there should be a log file for this "installer". It should be named something like "Oracle Client Library Installer.log". Can you post the contents here (or attached the file)?

any update on NPM 9.5? is there a release date on the horizon yet? Right now I am running NPM 9.1 with Netflow and APM and SQL2000 DB locally on my Orion server. I am looking at splitting the DB out to a different server, I have 4867 Elements and the database is getting pretty big. Was hoping to put this off until new version came out and just build a new new environment seeing that i will have to migrate to SQL2005 anyway.

According to the log it looks like the client installed. I'm guessing it was user error. There is no feedback from the installation. So I ran it a second time and got the error. Ultimately I think I ran the installer a dozen times, trying various things like "Run as administrator", and setting the compatability mode.

Well, it looks like it worked. To veirfy, you can check that you do have files in the \Program Files\Solarwinds\Orion\APM\OracleClient\ directory. There should be 4 files in there.

So what is the exact error that you get when you try to use the Oracle Monitor?
