WMI SNMP Provider

We're looking at APM for monitoring our Windows servers. On a Windows 2003 machine (Add or Remove Programs/Add or Remove Windows Components/Management and Monitoring Tools), I have the 'Simple Network Management Protocol' which I know I need to install and configure but there is also a component named 'WMI SNMP Provider'. Windows says this component "Allows client applications to access static and dynamic SNMP information through Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI)."

Is this component of any use when using APM?

you can use either WMI or SNMP with APM.

You will find a WMI monitor in APM which uses WMI to monitor the health of Windows processes running on the target node. WMI component monitors provide the following health indicators:

•	CPU utilization

•	Physical memory used

•	Virtual memory used

•	Number of instances running

•	Response time

•	Up/down status

Note: The WMI process monitor is better than the SNMP process monitor because WMI provides virtual memory usage, provides more granular data, and can be updated more frequently than most SNMP agents providing data for SNMP component monitors.
