NCM 7.4 email notifications arent working

Hello,

I just bought and installed NCM 7.4 to my existing Orion platform 2015.1.2 installation. I only have one poller and the email alerts from NPM work fine however the job completed notification emails from NCM do not work and in the log I see the below error:

Unable to send notification email to 'xxx@domain.com' : The transport failed to connect to the server.

I have the exact same SMTP server settings in both NPM and NCM so I know they are correct. Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?

I did get it resolved. it was operator error. I had mail@mycompany.com instead of mail.mycompany.com in the smtp server field. DOH!

I always get bitten by McAfee blocking outbound to port 25 (prevent worm mass emails).

Also, our SNMP server is ACL'd...so, you have to add all of your polling engine IPs and/or check McAfee/antivirus on each system.

also test via command line by telnetting to server on port 25 -> google test sending email via cmd command line

I have NPM installed on the same server and it is able to send emails no problem with the exact same SMTP settings

Hi dreeves‌,

I was chatting with support and they would like for you to open a support ticket so they can help you troubleshoot. We do know there is an issue with the RTN, but if your issue really is just the job scheduler then it wouldn't be affected by that known issue (which does have a fix, btw). We took a peek at your licenses just make sure the poller you mentioned wasn't an additional poller, so we've already ruled that out in advance. In the meantime, maybe someone on thwack has seen this and already figured it out. Sorry I couldn't be more help!

Haven't seen this issue pop up from our NCM 7.4 instances.

Just to confirm which apples I'm comparing though, Have any HotFixes been applied after your install - or just the core install for the modules?

I did just install HF 1 today but it didn't resolve it.

Hello dreeves,

Were you able to resolve this? We are experiencing the same issue. Some jobs are able to send an email after they run. Others fail with error message "The transport failed to connect to the server". The only difference between the jobs that work and those that don't is the email subject and the time the job runs.

Thanks for this info. I've stared at this for a while but could not see that I also made the same mistake. Interestingly, when I tested this out, I was able to send the email to myself via telnet to the SMTP server using the "@" symbol (smtp@mycompany.com). I'm all set. Thanks for your help, I can't believe the answer was right in my face
