APM False Positives

Question

Applications are falsely being shown as down.  I have uninstalled are reinstalled the NPM and APM.  I have checked the monitored servers and have been unable to see anything that would indicate that the services are actually down(event viewer logs mainly).

What complicates the matter is that all services on a single monitored server will go down and come back up at once.  This is happening on multiple monitored servers and at different times.  Any ideas?

Unfortunatly, I have this problem even after applying SP3.

WMI is the setup.

I have setup credentials to use on the servers.

If I hover over the info button I get an error message that says the following: "Unexpected Error Occurred. The remote proceedure call failed. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706BE)

I have also search the event logs in the monitored and monitoring servers and found nothing.

Was this setup as a SNMP service monitor or WMI? If WMI, did you specify, or setup a set of credentials to use for the WMI connection that have full access to the server you are monitoring?

If you go to the details for that application, is there an info button next to the down application? If so, what message do you see if you move your mouse over this info button?

Another place to check for issues is going to be the Windows Event Logs. I would focus on the SolarWinds.net and the Application logs and see if there is any entries from around the time the issues have been noted.

Hopefully the service packs will help.

Thanks for our reply.

1) I just applied APM SP3.  We will see if that helps.

2) I currently have the polling timeout at 30 seconds.  That is the default on most of the default templates and I figured that should be long enough.  What do you think?

Also, you mentioned that having both modules monitor the same application can cause this.  What two modules are you referring to here?  As far as I know, APM is the only module monitoring these services.
