autodiscovery on Orion?

OK. Apart from running the autodiscovery wizard is there any way to set up Orion to auto-discover nodes?

For instance, is there any way to get it to just plug in and nodes begin to appear? (similar to HP OV NNM) Or is manually discovering them the only way?

It's a manual process with Orion, but honestly having used both the automatic discovery in HPOV gets to be annoying as it sometimes goes crazy and discovers all sorts of nodes it shouldn't.

The problem with autodiscovery is that you have to create filters that allow or deny devices and unless they're 100% you start getting extra devices which means you have to comb through your maps delete them, then figure out way your filters didn't work right..

IMHO I'd just much rather have the control of adding devices rather than having to delete unknown things all the time..

Having auto-discovery or scheduled discovery has uncovered several ROGUE network devices. I would like to have the capablity from within Orion to do auto-discovery or at least scheduled discoveries.

The network map for HPOV was nice BUT I spent more time cleaning out printers and garbage that I could care less about.

Good point! Suggestion.... If you have EE and Orion, do a discovery with EE and store results in Jet database. Run a compare query between the EE and Orion node IP's and kick out the exceptions. No pretty pictures but it will give you a list of what EE found above and beyond what is in Orion. In my world, I would not have to keep cleaning up Orion.
