PDF Reports from Orion

More and more people seem to want PDF reports from Orion. My question is how should this work?

An export to PDF button on each web resource
Scheduled reports send a URL to the resource so user can export themselves
PDF sent as an attachment in a scheduled email
A combination of 1 and 3

I know Denny will be watching this, so lets give him something to think about!!

I like option 4. However, I would also like to see this option in the web console.

In fact, I would also like to see an option to export reports into any available format from the web console.

I would like to see option 4 as well. Most (if not all) of the other reporting tools that I have used are able to export their data into PDFs.

Option 4....and I really really they get this addressed. We've asked for this for a long time and should be a simple thing to do. I would include Excel as well. It's a nuisance to have to log into the server and run report writer, export the file, etc.

If the reports are showing on the ORION Reports website, you can run a monthly VBScript using the address.

Example: orion/.../Report.aspx

Using a VBScript you can achieve the following:

Step #1 - Open this page and sign into ORION (I used the ORION httplogin.vbs file to achieve this)

Step #2 - Issue print command from the script (htmldoc.ExecWB OLECMDID_PRINT, OLECMDEXECOPT_DONTPROMPTUSER,PRINT_WAITFORCOMPLETION, 0)

Step #3 - Close website

Step #4 - Deliver PDF to email or folder

Step #5 - Delete PDF that was generated

Step #6 - Continue with the next http link

I loaded PDFConverter onto my server and signed in as the account that the scheduled task would run as. I then set PDFConverter as the default and configured it to save to a default location with datetimestamp.pdf name.

This is a fairly easy script to achieve, I knocked it out in a few hours with the use of the ORION httplogin.vbs script. (to see it in action, set the debug to true)

Any new news on this yet? I would like the option after drilling down to say a certain graph and getting the info, timeline etc setup to save as PDF and/or email as PDF.

Also being able to use report scheduler to create in PDF would be nice. I have a few reports that no matter what I do, the formatting just doesn't look the same in an html email as it does on the actual site.

I have acrobat pro on my system and even if I print to PDF, it looks terrible. After making the PDF, I have to zoom in to at least 125% to make out text etc and it still doesn't look all that great.

Going to have to agree, this would all be very nice.

The PDF reports would solve my problem of having all those links in the email reports by the Report Scheduler.

My workaround to this has been to print to pdf with the pdf995 printer driver and then send the page to people... not the best but it works for now... but it's a manual process.

Adding the Excel suffix is useful for tables (and for me), but my management mostly want to see pictures.
I found that selecting Printable Version and then cut'n'pasting the graph into a Word doc also gives me the opportunity of describing what they are looking at. Saving the doc as a PDF means that I can safely mail it or a link to it.
If no description is needed, prepare your graph, make it Printable Version, mark the picture & right click to Email Picture.

This feature didn't, but there are plenty of other features requested around then or before then that are in v10. That said, this feature is high on our list for what's next.

Wow 2 years (and I'm sure more) of people requesting this and it's still not in the product? What's it going to take>?

I am helping one of our clients evaluate NMS' and I have to say Orion falls down big time on both reporting and PDF's, ether in scheduled reports or stats/graphs. All the other tools we are looking at have this capability.....

Disappointing, and I do like Solarwinds.

Am I missing something? Can't we send them as a link or directly viewable in body? Don't think we can send as attachment, but that seems minor.
