Policy Reporter sort order

Is there a way to sort the output from the Policy Reporter?

How about a hack for the routine that retrieves the node names? Where is the routine?

I am try to make a compliancy report, but with sites spread out and different people responsible for each site, it is really hard to tell them, here is the list of nodes and the status of each check - "Go find your nodes".

I use site names as a node identifier prefix. Sorting by simple node name would be helpful. This is all tied to something that knows the field ids does it not?

What am I missing here that the output is appears to be in order of addition to the database (and that is a guess)

SolarWinds ought to chime in on this at some point, but if my understanding's correct: no, there's no current way to sort the node order. It's annoying, I'm just about getting used to it, and it seems to be completely inconsistent: depending on the report I run, I seem to get different node orders.. I've asked for it as a feature request, hopefully someone at SolarWinds can tell us when this might be available.

I was looking tonight at using SQL Reporting Services to generate my own reports from the raw data contained within the policycacheresults table.

I'm using the data to eliminate devices from the report that don't have exceptions (when you have policy reports against thousands of devices, but only a handful of exceptions it gets boring scrolling through large mostly empty reports).

Good thing is, a simple order by statement also fixes up the node order issue.

While the html reports are good, the Reporting Services output will also give me some additional data export possibilities (i.e. sharepoint lists, exception totals across muliple policy reports etc).

@mmcs I hear ya. Its really annoying to get the web page version of the report with no real order, but in the Policy Reporter it automatically groups them by location and then sorts them alphabetically. Solarwinds, get this added as a feature addition. I know you want to make your product better. Well, start with fixing any bugs and getting the features you already have working at a worthwhile state before running off to try and add new semi-crippled features. Thanks

Hi All - we have made some pretty impressive improvements to the policy reporter in 6.1, which is available now in RC. We didn't get everything in there, but I think you will approve of the progress that we have made.
