OracleClient requires Oracle client software version 8.1.7 or greater

When trying to use an Oracle APM 2.0 monitor I receive the error "Unexpected error occurred. System.Data.OracleClient requires Oracle client software version 8.1.7 or greater. I'll assume this is something I need to install on the Orion server.

Do I really need to install the 500MB Oracle client in order to use the Oracle APM monitors? Hopefully all I need to do is copy over a few key DLL files to the Orion server. Does anyone know exactly what's needed to use the Oracle APM monitor?

You are correct. You need to install Oracle drivers on your Orion Server for APM to be able to communicate with Oracle. The same is true for SQL Server drivers, but Microsoft is nice enough to ship those with windows.

The only download of the drivers I've been able to find is the 500 MB one you referred to. I agree that seems execssive, but I haven't found anywhere on Oracle's site that provides a smaller installation. If someone knows another way of getting these drivers, please post.

After installing the Oracle client, is there any configuration work that need to be done?

I have Win2k3 Solarwinds machine with APM installed and trying to test APM against Oracle on Linux. I installed the Oracle 10g client and added the Linux servers with Net-SNMP installed. I am getting ORA-12514 and ORA-12541 error messages. I do not have Oracle experience so I'm stuck at this point. No documentation in APM Admin guide.

What should be used for the service_name and do I need to set up credentials?

Any help appreciated.
