what i need to do is be able to (via snmp)

create an ssh login user
modify an ssh login users privileges

is this possible via snmp?

Hi damo,

with help of our support team I have the answers:

Q1 The only thing we do via SNMP is download configs. You cannot issue a command via an snmp set.

Q2 Correct.

Hi Jiri,

i am trying to change a users privileges (of a standard ssh login) using an snnmp command

I am using a cisco 2950 switch ,

i am able to trigger a backup of the running-config on the switch to a TFTP server via snmp (OID .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.2.1.55)

i am able to trigger a backup of the startup-config on the switch to a TFTP server via snmp (OID .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.2.10.9)

i am able to trigger a restore of the running-config on the TFTP server to the switch (OID .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.2.10.12)

i am able to trigger a restore of the startup-config on the TFTP server to the switch (OID .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.2.1.53)

so im doing ok but i have a question -

In order to change a users privilege - from what i have gathered based on the sparse information on the web - i have to:

Download the running config to the TFTP server

Modify the running config file on the host pc (i.e update the priviliges on the file)

restore the running config from the TFTP server to the switch

Download the startup-config to the TFTP server

Modify the startup-config file on the host pc (i.e update the priviliges on the file)

restore the startup-config from the TFTP server to the switch

Question 1: is there any method of pointing to an OID on the switch to do this? - whats above seems like alot of operations that can potentially break anywhere anlong the process and leave me with a semi changed configuration on the switch

Question 2: the actual startup config file stred on the switch is called config.text - is this correct (im pretty sure it is but id like to confirm)?
