What am I missing with SNMP variables??

I have defined a new Advanced Alert to forward e-mails to myself for particular events such as port-security violations. I am testing by tripping port-security on one of my switches and watching as the alert is triggered. In the message text of the e-mail I am using such variables as ${ObjectName}, ${DateTime}, ${Message}, etc. I'm finding that only a few of the variables are populated in the body of the e-mail and the rest are translated literally (i.e. ${IP_Address} shows exactly as ${IP_Address} in the body of the e-mail}. What am I missing here?? We are about 10 days from our demo license expiring and I want to make sure that this will do what we want. Thanks ahead of time.

Did you create interface alerts? You may need to add 'node.' to the front of the variable. Like: ${Node.IP_Address}

I have basic alerts created for the interfaces. I added Node in front of ${IP_Address} and it brings it in so thanks for that. Prepending Node to other variables doesn't work (at least for the ones that I'm using in my message); do you know how I can get the text of the SNMP trap into the message?? Thanks again.

For SNMP Traps, you need to create the alert using the trap viewer utility on the server. You also configure the email actions from within that utility.

Thanks a lot for your response. I have found the utility that you refer to, but I am unable to get it to work. If my switch sends a trap to NPM it should show up in the Trap Viewer, correct?? Using wireshark I can see the trap, but I cannot see it in the viewer.

Ok, I have figured out why SNMP trap viewer was not populating with trap messages. Now I am being alerted, but for some reason the text of the trap is Unknown. Do I need to do anything special to get the text of the SNMP message to come through??
