Orion NPM->NCM Config import - Updated column fields are not merged, Merge is skipping devices

I am working on getting the NPM->NCM scheduled jobs working - so far so good, I've got most of my database fields mapped up exactly as they should be.

I want to import a field "ConfigFlag" that will let NCM know it's OK to download the config for this node.

This field is not being updated! It is constantly set as Null... ConfigFlag is varchar(200) in both NCM and NPM.

"Add only new modes. Uncheck to add new nodes and merge data about existing nodes"- this is unchecked.
"Specify newly added nodes as unmanaged. Uncheck to immediately manage newly added nodes" - this is also unchecked.

If I completely delete the database entry and add it again the appropriate fields are updated, so, erg!

The end goal here as usual is to only configure node custom properties, passwords, usernames, snmp, etc, in one location (Orion NPM). I'm on Cirrus 5.5.2 with the 5.5.2 integration module.

This is a fresh install of NCM, I've moved it to a new server. During the setup procedure, an "Integrate NCM with Orion" *checkbox* was available for the installer. This is no longer available... When I had the checkbox selected, I was not able to press "Next". I have not seen this option again after running the configuration wizard or when ugprading the application.

jp, I also was puzzled by the skipped nodes.

The thing is that in NCM all nodes have a property which-name-I-dont-remember-and-dont-have-NCM-by-me-right-now, and that property is normally False. So all nodes that have been newly imported in NCM will have that as False.

Now, if you change - say - some nodes SNMP community in NPM and you then run the all nodes import in NCM, NCM will NOT update the SNMP community in NCM database because of the mentioned property (it is set to False).

So, you need to manually edit all your nodes in NCM on that property (set it to True) to be able to automatically import the node changes later.

I really don't understand the logic behind this feature but I already gave up and accepted this (We do have our offshore team in some-cheaper-country so we can outsource this change there instead of doing it automatically...)

I gave up again, it's easier to attack this from the sql side than anything else. Why Solarwinds doesn't ship with something like 'this' out of the box, I'll never know~

Thanks for sharing the code!!

I have already logged a support ticket where the SNMP mapping was not working fine for the import nodes from NPM

I was looking for some way to automate this as it's a pain changing all the nodes manually in NCM

Can the trigger be modified to only import Cisco devices and can this be run for existing devices or i have to delete them all and run this code

Does the trigger work only for the new nodes added in NPM?

Jp, can you please open a support ticket on your merging issue? There's no reason why the merge that you described shouldn't work properly. We definitely want to get this fixed.

Just to make sure we're clear, you are using the scheduled Orion node import job in the Scheduled Jobs list:

As posted in the above, i have already opened a ticket and support said it is a know issue and this will be fixed in the next version

My issue is that SNMP import is not working properly for any version and iam using the scheduled import job in NCM

Can you check if this can be rectified now as i have 1500 nodes that needs to be imported to NCM with snmp as well?

I am afraid waiting till the next release will be a lot of manual work for me

Sorry, everyone, I've been on Vacation and I have not been checking my forum postings. It's good that there's a support request open on this one (So I don't have to do it myself!!)

To the question on the cisco merge;

Add another WHERE clause below, WHERE n.Vendor="Cisco" should really help out.

Chandru, this code only works for existing nodes.

The trigger is intended to work with the orion database import. It will only update NCM nodes that already exist, it won't create new rows. I toyed with creating new nodes, but it was just way too much work as there's a lot of downstream table work that needs to be taken care of. I don't want to break too much of the application.

So, create this trigger, add it to the Nodes table of your Orion(NPM) install, and set up the node import feature of NPM->NCM.

Chris, I can completely verify that I am using this particular automatic import tool. I've tried manual imports, automatic imports, and tuned all of the settings. It just skips rows and does not update columns.
