Reordering Alert Actions

Hey all,

I am trying to add an NCM action to my alerts to add notes to the email when some of my pre-existing alerts are triggered. I can add the action and try to move it above the email action, click next through and save. When I test the alert the note does not make it on, I go back inot the alert and check and the NCM action is at the bottom of the list. Now I can create a new one OR delete the old actions and add them back in in the proper order and they work but I'm trying not to have to do that for every alert. Anyone else seen this behavior in NPM 12.5?

Do your actions involve an escalation? If there is not then they basically all happen at the same time, or within milliseconds. It doesn't wait for step 1 to proceed to step 2. If you want to let the ncm action complete before your email goes out you usually need to add in an escalation and let it wait maybe a minute or so before it tries to shoot out the email.

No they are not set in an escalation order. Just one after another, it works fine if I put them in order from the initial config of the alert. I assumed since you could drag and drop them into different orders that once saved it would keep that order, but that isn't the case. I will try making an escalation order and get back, did not think of doing it that way.

So escalation works but call me hardheaded because I want the drag and drop to work as well. I assume that's the reason it is there haha

I'll keep this open for a couple days to see if anyone else responds

The drag and drop is to enable you to move actions around within the different Escalation levels. As mentioned by mesverrum the actions are all fired at the same time so there isn't a strict order within each Escalation level. I suspect you've just got lucky with other alerts that the NCM Action has completed first and you've got the notes.
