Report to show installed MS SQL versions

I have been looking at the Software Inventory Reports that come with NPM/SAM with the intention of gathering information regarding our SQL inventory in our estate. The problem that I have come across is that the reports doesn't actually give the SQL software version installed, but just the name of the SQL software instance. The subcategories of SQL are listed and their versions are shown in the report. All my servers are being polled via WMI.

Is there another way of retrieving this info by either using an SQL query using Report Writer, or would purchasing Patch Manager give me greater details when it comes to Software version reports.

I'm doubting that the "better late than never" works for something over 5 years old, but I was searching for this same thing and found nothing.
Ended up playing with the following query.

SELECT
N.IP_Address, N.UnManaged, N.Caption, N.SysName, N.StatusDescription, N.Status, N.MachineType, N.TotalMemory,
S.Name, S.Version, S.InstallDate
FROM dbo.NodesData N
-- JOIN dbo.AssetInventory_Polling A on N.NodeID=A.NodeID
JOIN dbo.AssetInventory_SoftwareView S on N.NodeID=S.NodeID
WHERE S.Name like '%SQL%'

You can get this information easier via SWQL if you are monitoring via AppInsight for SQL.

SELECT [SQLInfo].Node.Caption
     , [SQLInfo].Node.IPAddress
     , [SQLInfo].InstanceName
     , [SQLInfo].ProductVersion
     , [SQLInfo].ProductLevel
     , [SQLInfo].Edition
FROM Orion.APM.SqlServerApplication AS [SQLInfo]
ORDER BY [SQLInfo].Node.Caption

Am using Appinsight sql for monitor the sql servers i need instance availability report the out of box database availability not giving the instance name .

Any sql query to achieve this SQL availability report
