Has anyone used the Solarwinds installer at the link below? Does it work decently or does it cause more problems than it is worth?
SolarWinds Feature: SolarWinds Orion Installer - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and Support
In my experience it works great! Essentially it has Orion Diagnostics built-in which it runs prior to installing any upgrades to ensure there isn't any compatibility issues.
No more going through the upgrade assistant to plan out product version paths, downloading and staging multiple installers, then watching each installer go through the same steps ad nauseum.
The only issue I've heard of is if you only want to upgrade say NPM but, not NCM you can't choose which products to upgrade. It's all or nothing. In fairness though, since you're upgrading the Orion Core along with the products those older product versions would have issues anyway.
Thanks! That was the information I needed. I have not done updates in sometime and sounds like this tool should make it easy.
Since you've used it, I've got a question for you. Is it something that can function on a stand-alone network (no Internet connectivity)? It sounds like it would need to reach back to SolarWinds. If so, it's a no starter for me.
Thanks much,
Terry
Yes it does use the internet to download the updates that are needed.
There is an "offline" installer available as well for the scenario you described.
The offline installation is our usual method. I had hoped I could download all the offline packages and just hit the magic "upgrade all" button versus the individual package upgrades.
One more question if you don't mind. Is it best practice to perform in place upgrades or new clean builds? I can do both ways.
Hi Josh, what's the updated download link for the offline Orion Installer? The URL at start of this post (https://support.solarwinds.com/Success_Center/Orion_Platform/Orion_Documentation/SolarWinds_Feature%3A_SolarWinds_Orion_… ) now only gives details on the installer -- without giving the Installer itself.

You need to login to your solarwinds account and go to the download section for NPM and it will be listed under the Install Type.
