Is there a place to define the SMTP server settings so they don't have to be entered each time you configure an alert with an email notification?
I would think this should be an easier feature to find, but its not.
Hi rajackson,
The SMTP server hostname/ip address is stored in the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SolarWinds.net\SolarWinds 2002\EMail\Gateway Orion does not keep the port number and the credentials.
You can set the Hostname/IP address of your SMTP server by using the SWEmailNotify utility
\Program Files\Solarwinds\Common\SWEmailNotify
Type there the hostname/ip address of your email server and click on Apply Changes.
HTH,
Yann
Following on from this,
Is there away to change the SMTP hostname for alerts that are already configured without going in to each alert that is already set up?
Kind Regards
Iain
I created an idea to be commented/voted on.
I recently ran into this as well, where I had to manually change a large number of alerts to a new SMTP server.

There is a good post on making this change en mass:
Howto: Updating the SMTP server and envelope sender for all advanced alerts and traps via database manager for NPM.
Until this is baked into the feature set, this is a great time saver.
