Using Solarwinds Orion to monitor Cisco UCS blades

Hi all,

I need people's advises about using Solarwinds Orion to monitor Cisco UCS blades.

Do you think a 15s polling interval is to dense? Can it cause any bad affect to the system?

15s seems excessive to me. Even though you can specify less than 60 seconds for certain polling functions I've seen it not adhere to those. Lowest polling interval I've heard from support is 60 seconds.

I can't speak for the UCS blades, but I monitor our HP blades with default settings...It's been running this way a long time and I've not seen any issues with it. Are you having issues that you're trying to track down or is this just general monitoring you're setting up?

I'm just planning for our new system. Some guys told me that I should keep short polling time to get quick alert about system problems. But I wonder such short time is safe or not.

Do you have any experience?

I would go with defaults and see how it goes

Seems a bit too often to me. I would go with the defaults.

We have ours setup for the default 120 seconds and have had no issues with anything being reported late.
