Hi,
Is there a way to monitor a dns server to ensure that it is responding to dns requests rather than monitoring the server itself.
Regards
Miron
Miron,
APM has a component type named: DNS User Experience Monitor
You can use it to ensure you can resolve a domain name or get the hostname of an IP address.
in the webconsole click on Admin > APM Settings > App Builder
Select DNS User Experience Monitor > Next > Create a new Component Monitor > Next > Fill in the parameters > Next > Add it to an existing template or create a new one > Create it > Assign it to a node.
HTH,
Yann
Yann,
How can you confirm the version and sp of APM as I am not seeing those options as you discribe.
APM v2.0 has the feature I described . The last sp (14th November 08) for that version is the Service Pack 2
.
You are probably running APM 1.0 .
I advise you to have a look at the Release Notes to know how to upgrade: www.solarwinds.com/.../releaseNotes.htm
APM v1 doesn't have the setting, but you can create a custom MIB poller for DNS stats success. That will display a nice chart on how many successfull responses your DNS servers answer.
