Hardware component is in warning or critical state

Hello,

I'm seeing an alert in our Orion Console for our Cisco Catalyst 3750 Switch:

Active Alert Details - Hardware component is in warning or critical state - on Gi2/1/1 Receive Power Sensor.

How do I resolve this issue? I am not seeing the same error on any other switches.

What ios are you running? It may be related to the device. Try removing it and adding it again.

There is a known bug with certain cisco firmwares where they report certain sensors with incorrect warning thresholds when you poll it in SNMP, but the CLI shows everything as normal. This looks like that. There are lots of threads about the issue on the forums of every snmp based monitoring tool I've ever seen.

You could confirm by performing an SNMP walk against the device and seeing what you get from the hardware sensor section. Typically the most common solutions are to disable the faulty sensors in orion, or switch to using the ciscoenvmon mib for hardware health as mentioned here.

Using that mib basically just has a cut down list of sensors to power supplies/fans/temp and doesn't display the status of the individual interface sensors. You could also over ride the hardware sensor thresholds so orion stops asking the switch what the threshold should be and you manually define it.
