When using the Custom Property Editor on the a node details web page, is there a way to have the field be a dropdown box including existing choices instead of just being a freeform text field?
not exactly what you were hoping for but in the Settings you can enable the Auto-Search feature to help you search a particular column.
That will work when I am entering info via the Custom Property Editor... However, I am doing this via the Custom Property Edit module that I have added to the Node Details page. I don't want others getting to the server page, just the web front end, thus my reasoning.
