Appinsight for Exchange configuration

Hello,

I am running through http://www.solarwinds.com/documentation/en/flarehelp/sam/default.htm#cshid=SAMAGAppInsightForExchangeManuallyConfigureExchangeServer.htm to configure AppInsight for Exchange in our Orion deployment. Everything has worked well so far, and I have some questions on the step titled “Create a Self-Signed Certificate”. I am running the downloadable script, and the first questions it prompts me for is “Please enter the Exchange Server IP:”.

Exchange Roles for this particular deployment are split up: Client Access on one, and Mailbox DB on the other.

Which Server should I consider to be the relevant server for the script’s prompts? After looking through the remaining steps of the script once this particular question is answered, I think I’m headed down the right path. Thanks for any response.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe this has to be ran against the Exchange CAS server or whatever server has that role.

I would strongly advise against manual configuration. Instead, ensure the Node is managed via WMI or an Agent. Next, click 'List Resources' on that node and select 'Microsoft Exchange Server'.

From the 'All Applications' tree resource on the Application Summary View, click on the newly added AppInsight for Exchange application in the list. You will then be prompted to provide credentials. Once entered click the 'Configure Server' button and you should be all set. This will handle the entire certificate creation and process, configure WinRM, etc..
