Update from 6.21

Hi,

Currently I'm running version 6.21 and I am thinking of doing the update shortly.

Can anyone foresee any issues. My main worry is that I have had to open ports just to deploy the agent and on some older OSs I have had to do a manual install. What I really don't want is to be manually updating the agent on 200 servers.

Will 6.22 see older versions of the agent correctly?

The most recent version is 6.2.3. With 6.3 coming out soon, I'd hold fire 'till you've seen the release notes for that. Unless you desperately need improvements that came with 6.2.3, that is.

You wouldn't want to go through the pain twice, and 6.3 has some rather snazzy updates (probable Linux agents, for example). You'll defiantly want to upgrade to that, and I wouldn't be surprised if Windows Agents have a fresh version to go along with the new Linux ones.

Provided the Agents are connected the Orion server as seen under [Settings -> Manage Agents] those agents will automatically update by default when you upgrade your version of SAM. This occurs over the Agent communication channel, rather than the ports used for initial push deployment. So if you've manually installed agents in your environment these agents should update without you having to do anything beyond upgrading SAM to the latest version.

Well, I didn't realise that. I guess I've never noticed the Agent upgrades had happened without my having to do anything. Every day's a school day!

Yeah, you should be able to, when it's released. It's only upgrading over a major release that leads to interim steps.
