NCM and Cisco serial numbers

Bear with me - I am new to NCM but learning fast.

My objective is to be able to run a report which shows Cisco devices and their serial numbers. I found the Cisco Chassis IDs report whcih displays 'most' of the serial numbers however there are blanks. I can see these serial numbers for the devices when I do a Show Version and look at 'System Serial Number'.

How do I get the 'System Serial Number' data into the report?

I've found that for IOS switches and routers, the "Hardware ID" field is what you want. For some reason, the PIX/ASA and IPS devices don't report the same way.

I haven't found a clean way (other than some post-processing with custom Perl scripts) to pull serial info about individual line cards...

For devices, I set up a custom poller for each of non-IOS device type and put the data in a custom field. Then, I report on Hardware ID and the custom field together. It makes for less elegant reports directly from Orion, but at least all the data's in one place albeit in two different columns.

I'd be interested to know if anyone else has a more "right" way of doing this across all devices.

Its going to vary a bit depending on IOS, but I've been able to build a similar report. I included the Chassis ID & Chassis Serial Number fields. Have you tried both of those fields?

Out of curiosity, what model and/or IOS isn't working?
