Can you do this with SolarWinds
pn1995
Hi We are demoing the Orian product and have it monitoring a few routers. Anyway the the software is tell us that one of the interfaces is running at 60% capacity but we wanted to know were the traffic was being generated from. Is there any tool in the SolarWinds product range that could tell us were most of the traffic on our WAN link is going to?
Thanks

You currently can't do that with Orion but perhaps they will be adding Netflow support in the future. For now, you can do what you want right now from the command line on the router. Turn on either IP accounting or Netflow switching and you'll be able to see who's talking to who.

Yeah - I'd love this feature in Orion as standard too!
Recently we've been looking at a way to do this using 3rd party products - there's a few on the market that work nicely with Netflow which is a Cisco only thing (although some others do support it).
One product I looked at you can integrate into the web page and that worked pretty nicely but was a bit pricey and again limited to only Cisco devices.
The only way to get all the traffic details from non-netflow devices is using a packet capture product to analyse the data and get "Top Talkers" or something like that out of it.
If anyone has found a nice cheap or free way to do this please let me know too

What you want can probably be done, almost anything can, with RRDtool.

A list of companion "apps" here:

Cacti is a good one to start looking at.
