Remote WMI Query for SQL not Working

I amtrying to monitor a SQL server (version 8.00.2050 SP4) with the "SQL Server (via WMI)" Application Monitor, but the status stays at unknown. I downloaded the "Windows Management Instrumentation Troubleshooting for Orion APM" guide, and followed it step-by-step. I made all of the changes listed in the document, but every time I run the "Testing Remote WMI Connectivity" test, it fails with this error:

Number: 0x80070005

Facility: Win32

Description: Access is denied.

I am using a Domain Admin account for authentication, so I know I should have all required permissions. The target does not have the MS firewall enabled either. Does anyone have an idea what might be causing this, and better yet, how I might fix it?

Hi, Jon.

If your server team took away remote permissions from Domain Administrators as you suspect, some possible solutions come to mind:

a. use a local admin account to access the node

b. ask the server team to undo their group policy change

c. move your nodes to a different domain where you have complete control over the administrator permissions

I tried using a Local Admin account, and it too fails. I have emailed the Server Team about this (maybe they will respond this year ;-). As far as undoing the GPO changes, that is not possible as the changes are gov't mandates that we have to implement for accreditation. Moving the server to a new OU might be a possibility, but I think we need to discover what GPO settings are causing the issues, as we will need to submit a waiver to have those settings removed in this new OU. Is there a list available that contains all of the services and permissions that are required for remote WMI to work?
