Unable to mine Windows Perf counters for Citrix ICA Data

I am trying to create custom counters for Citrix sessions. I get the following message:

HResult: Unable to parse the counter path. Check the format and syntax of the specified path.

I am able ot create counters for things in other namespaces without incident. Does anyone have any idea why this is? We have verified permissions on the namespace and it looks OK...

Can you view the statistics for these counters when you open Perfmon.exe on the Citrix server itself?

Alter - Yes we can.

Then it could be one of two things. Either these are 64bit counters only, or you selected 64bit when these are 32bit counters.

Another possibility is that you are using a template which references performance counter categories or instances that have either been moved or renamed. I would suggest using the Component Monitor Wizard located under [Settings -> SAM Settings] to browse for the same performance counter you were looking at in Perfmon.exe on the local Citrix server. As a last ditch effort you can use mbussey's suggestion and use the same Component Monitor Wizard and choose "Custom Performance Monitor - WMI" rather than "Windows Performance Counter Monitor" to see if WMI works better for your environment than RPC.

Hey thanks for the response. I have really tried them all. I get this message after having built a component monitor from browsing into this stuff. I am actually using a template that you build for Citrix sessions and notice you used SWSQL to do it?!?!

Some other tricks to try would be to restart the "Remote Registry" service on the Citrix Server. You can also try rebuilding the performance counters by running "lodctr /r" at the command line of the Citrix server. These two tricks usually resolve about 90% of all Windows Performance Counter issues.
