SNMP Intermittantly Failing on Single Device

All, I've got an issue that I'd appreciate some feedback on. I have a single switch that intermittently goes into an unknown state due to SNMP communication failure. The same switch is configured in a seperate NMS and has communicated for years without a hitch. We have dozens of other switches within NPM that never experience this problem.

When this happens, I've tried polling interface data using Engineers Toolset and experienced the same issue. Likewise Engineers Toolset on my workstation works fine.

Has anyone run into a similar issue? Ideas?

Is there a firewall in between the switch and your poller? Are there any logs on the switch itself that might indicate what the problem is? If it's a Cisco switch, you can do a 'show snmp' and see the stats for SNMP to see if any of the error conditions increase while the problem is happening. You can also turn on SNMP debugging to see if the packets are making it to the switch. Alternatively, you can run a Wireshark trace on your server to see whether the packets are coming back into the server and whether they are malformed in some way.

No firewall. I've ben watching debugs, but nothing has jumped out indicating a problem yet. I will look a little closer at the sh snmp output. SNMP appears to be working at the moment. I did a sh snmp and there were 122 "Too big errors". Not sure if thats related, but I'll do some research on that. Thanks for the response.

Was the switch just recently added to Orion or was it already there and this behavior just began happening one day? What model switch is it and where is it in relation to the Orion server?

This is a Cisco 2960G that has been in NPM since we first put NPM into production. I've removed and re-added the switch multiple times. The switch and Orion server are in the same subnet seperated by 2-3 switches.
